JCPOA helps boost Iran’s relations with world says Dutch MP

SHAFAQNA – Pointing to international consensus on preserving JCPOA, Dutch MP Raymond Knops voiced his country’s parliament’s strong support for implementing the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands, Raymond Knops, made the remark in a meeting Sat. with Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Head of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, in Tehran, adding that the nuclear agreement is highly instrumental in promoting peace and security in the world and further develop relations between Iran and other countries.

He went on to add that his trip took place as part of the plan to evaluate the status of the two countries’ relations and ways to further expand bilateral economic and cultural ties.

The Dutch parliamentary delegation is composed of representatives of different parties which indicates the willingness of the country’s government in boosting its friendly relations with Iran, he said.

The Dutch parliamentary official raised some questions regarding JCPOA, Iran’s missile program and the future of the two countries’ interactions.

For his part, Boroujerdi, pointed to Iran and the Netherlands’ four centuries of diplomatic relations, saying “over the past four centuries, the relations of the two nations have gone through some ups and downs, but now with the increase in Iran’s relations with European countries, we can witness the emergence of a new chapter in Iran-Netherlands relations by constructive cooperation and negotiations.”

Boroujerdi then voiced dissatisfaction over the current level of bilateral economic cooperation between the two sides, and called for an increase in business interactions with the European country.

The Iranian official touched upon the US president’s anti-JCPOA remarks and said, “JCPOA is not an agreement between Iran and the United States, rather it is a deal between six countries representing the international community. We must not allow one country to take full control of the fate of the agreement.”

When asked about Iran’s missile program, Boroujerdi replied “our missile program is defensive in nature and does not concern JCPOA. Iran will continue to develop its missile defense programs and the matter is not negotiable in any way.”
