SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – Leadership is an important phenomenon in Islam because a proper leader will protect the religion. In Ayah 67 of Surah Al-Ma’edah, Allah (SWT) told the Prophet of Islam: If you do not appoint a leader, all your efforts will be wasted. There are people who should not be followed, Ayah 151 of Surah Al-Shoaraa said: Do not follow those who transgress beyond bounds and Ayah 77 of Surah Al-Ma’edah said: Do not follow those who have already gone astray and misled many. In Ayah 55 of Surah Al-Ma’edah, Allah (SWT) said: Your leader is the one who gave his ring to a needy person whilst bowing in prayers (Ruko’a in Salaat), meaning a proper leader remembers and spreads the religion of God at all times. Therefore the issue of leadership in Islam is a crucial one and Muslims should pay great attention to it.
