Diamonds Sisters have clinched the 2014/15 OG Issa Blantyre and Districts Netball League title after beating Complex Tigresses by 36 baskets to 33 on Saturday afternoon at the College of Medicine Sports Complex Netball Arena in Blantyre.
Diamonds Sisters controlled all the four quarters no wonder Tigresses failed to repeat their good form over their rivals.
Tigresses have enjoyed a good run of form over Diamonds in the just ended season, beating them almost in every competition but on Saturday, Diamonds got the better of their fiercest rivals in Malawi and after the final quarter, the Griffin Saenda girls won the league.
Despite finishing the league in style, there has been little to celebrate for many netball lovers following revelations that sponsors OG Plastics have pulled the plug.
OG Plastics deputy general manager Francis Mponela confirmed the development during the prize presentation ceremony saying the company will no longer continue sponsoring the league due to other commitments.
He did not disclose what the ‘other commitments’ were.
But observers have connected the development to a recent strike at the company which employs over 10, 000 people, saying it could be considering financial restructuring.
