Missouri Governor ordered National Guard to Ferguson

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has ordered the National Guard to Ferguson as tensions rise following the fatal shooting by police of an unarmed black teenager. The Governor said the National Guard would “help restore peace and order” after days of protests over the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. On Sunday night, police fired tear gas at demonstrators as gunfire was heard.

The announcement came as a preliminary private autopsy found that Michael Brown was shot at least six times, twice in the head, according to the New York Times. As night fell in Ferguson, a peaceful protest quickly deteriorated into further violence, more than a week after Michael Brown’s killing on August 9. Some protesters carried signs protesting against police brutality and some had their hands up in the air. The Missouri Highway Patrol also said it used tear gas to disperse “aggressors” who were trying to infiltrate a law enforcement command post, and that armoured vehicles were deployed to ensure public safety.
