Muslim organisations alarmed by the murder of faith leader in Uganda, Sheikh Dakturi Muwaya

We, as Muslim organisations in the UK, strongly condemn the murder of the Shia Muslim leader in Uganda Sheikh Daktoor Muwaya also known as Abd Kadir Saud, who was shot in cold blood by two unknown men on Christmas Day. Sheikh Muwaya was the head of the Ahlul Bait Islamic Foundation and had about 1000 people under his care, providing them with free education, medical services, clean sanitation, housing and accommodation. His centre was inaugurated by the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni. Sheikh Muwaya called for good relations with other faiths and with other schools within Islam, providing them with assistance whenever he could.

We are alarmed and concerned by the targeting of faith leaders in Uganda. We hope that the Ugandan community collectively rejects this act of violence. We hope that the authorities act expeditiously to bring the perpetrator to justice and protect all minority communities from further crimes in the future.
