Nissan will recall 220,000 Altimas

SHAFAQNA – The hoods of 2013 Nissan Altima sedans can fly open while driving, the automaker disclosed in a notice to federal regulators saying that it plans to recall more than 220,000 cars. According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem centers around the hood’s inner panel, which can interfere with a secondary latch on some models that’s supposed to keep the hood closed. Corrosion and debris can make the problem worse.

If the primary hood latch somehow gets released while the car is on the road, the second latch could fail, causing the hood to open unexpectedly.

The recall covers 2013 Nissan Altimas with a manufacture date of March 6, 2012, to Feb. 28, 2013.

Nissan hasn’t said yet when it will notify owners of the next steps.

According to the NHTSA, Nissan dealerships will either fix the angle of the lever so it doesn’t stick to the inner panel, or, if there’s a major problem, replace the latch assembly, free of charge.
