SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- Kurdish forces fighting ISIL militants in the Syrian city of Kobani have recaptured parts of the city following heavy clashes with the Takfiri terrorists.

Top local officials said on Tuesday that Kurdish forces were advancing street by street in the southern areas of the city, which is located close to the Syrian border with Turkey.

They said the ISIL terrorists would soon be pushed out of Kobani.

The so-called UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) also said “the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) recaptured streets and buildings in the south of Kobani after a fierce battle against ISIS (ISIL) that began yesterday [Monday] evening.”

The Kurdish forces reportedly fired several mortar shells on ISIL positions.

On November 9, a recent report by the London-based SOHR said more than 1,000 people have lost their lives since the ISIL militants entered the border city.

As a result of the violence, more than 200,000 Kobani residents have fled across the border into Turkey.

Meanwhile, the US-led coalition has also carried out three fresh airstrikes against ISIL positions near Kobani, killing a number of militants.

Kobani has been under siege by ISIL terrorists since mid-September.

The ISIL militants have committed terrible atrocities in Syria and Iraq, including mass executions and the beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.
