SHAFAQNA- Tehran, Sept 21 – President Hassan Rouhani in a message forwarded to Afghanistanˈs President-Elect Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Sunday congratulated him for winning the sensitive post in Iranˈs eastern neighboring country.
‘I sincerely congratulate your good self, the president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,’ wrote President Rouhani in his message to Mr. Ahmadzai.
‘The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a friend and neighbor of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, welcomes the establishment of the National Unity Government there, which is a sigh of farsightedness of the (Afghan) leaders,’ added the Iranian president in his felicitation message to his Afghan counterpart.
President Rouhani added that this move sets the foundation for evermore strengthening of the pillars of stability and security in Afghanistan, which is why Iran wholeheartedly welcomes it, hoping that the brotherly relations between the two Islamic, neighboring countries ‘will during the presidency of Your Excellency keep expanding day after day.’
‘I pray to Almighty Allah for your good health, full success, and wellbeing and for the prosperity of the Afghan Government and nation,’ says the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the end of his felicitation massage.
Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, the President-elect of Afghanistan is usually referred to as Ashraf Ghani, while Ahmadzai is the name of his tribe, which some Pashtuns, like Ghani, use as their last name. Ghani previously served as Afghanistan’s finance minister and as a chancellor of Kabul University.
Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002, Ghani was a leading scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As finance minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan’s attempted economic recovery after the collapse of the hated government of the Taliban terrorists.
He is the co-founder of the Institute for State Effectiveness, an organization set up in 2005 to improve the ability of states to serve their citizens.
