PressTv/ China to set up new anti-graft bureau: Official

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- China is to set up a new anti-corruption bureau aimed at streamlining a nationwide campaign against graft, a senior official says.

China’s ruling Communist Party has agreed to establish the anti-corruption general office under its top prosecutor, a report published by the official Xinhua news agency on Sunday citied the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) Deputy Attorney General Qiu Xueqiang as saying.

The new bureau will address weak organizational structure and staffing restrictions which have beleaguered prosecutors’ handling of corruption cases, Qiu said.

The official noted that under the reforms, the SPP will “concentrate its energy to directly investigate big and important cases…and effectively break through institutional barriers in handling cases.”

Wang Qishan, a senior leader of the Communist Party who also works with the anti-corruption campaign, recently said the fight against deeply-ingrained corruption will never end.

Chinese President Xi Jinping kicked off an anti-corruption campaign two years ago. Since then, several high-profile lawmakers have been charged with corruption and expelled from the ruling Communist Party.

China investigated more than 25,000 people for corruption in the first half of 2014.

The vow to punish graft came only days after the Communist Party began an investigation into former domestic security chief, Zhou Yongkang, by far the highest-profile figure caught up in Xi’s corruption crackdown.

President Xi has pledged to root out every corrupt official as widespread graft threatens the survival of the Communist Party.
