to be squeezed out of existence: UK PM

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association)-British Prime Minister David Cameron has vowed that the ISIL terrorist group will “be squeezed out of existence,” as the militants threaten to kill a British hostage.

Cameron made the comments in the House of Commons on Wednesday, adding that Britain “will not be cowed” by threats from ISIL militants to kill the British hostage, identified as David Cawthorne Haines.

“Let me be very clear. This country will never give in to terrorism. Our opposition to ISIL will continue at home and abroad,” said Cameron, who also promised to build a coalition in the region to combat the Takrifi group.

On Tuesday, a video was released showing the execution of a second US journalist, Steven Sotloff, by ISIL militants. In addition, a masked militant with a British accent warned that Haines would be the next victim to be beheaded. Haines was reportedly kidnapped in March 2013, while in northeastern Syria near the border with Turkey.

Earlier in the day, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said the UK government will examine all options to release the British hostage and Britain does not rule out airstrikes against the ISIL militants in Iraq.

The killing of Sotloff was the second execution of hostages held by the ISIL in just weeks. On August 20, a video was released of the beheading of US journalist, James Foley, by a masked militant, who appeared to be the same man with a British accent whose voice was featured in Sotloff’s execution video.

The militant claimed Foley was beheaded in retaliation for US airstrikes against the Takfiri group in Iraq.

The ISIL is in control of a large swath of northeastern Syria as well as some territory in Iraq, where they have been committing heinous crimes, including the mass execution of civilians and Iraqi security forces. The ISIL terrorists threaten all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Izadi Kurds and others.
