PressTV/ Pakistan army official meets with Kerry at US State Department

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has held a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry at the US Department of State, presenting the Asian country’s perspective on regional security issues.

A Twitter update by Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa revealed that the two authorities met on Sunday.

During the meeting, General Sharif talked about Pakistan’s stance on regional security issues.

For his part, Kerry hailed Pakistan’s role in dealing with terror, while commending Pakistan’s Army for fighting terrorists.

Kerry also praised improved relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan as an important phase in establishing regional stability.

This comes as US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Daniel Feldman, said after a meeting with General Sharif that both sides “…recognize that significant progress has been made” in the fight against terrorists since the North Waziristan operation was launched on 15 June 2014.

“We had very straightforward, constructive and honest discussions on the need to go after all terrorists…and to make sure that all terrorist safe havens are shut down,” Feldman added.

Sharif arrived in the United States in late November on a two-week visit during which he held talks with a number of US officials in order to rebuild a lasting relationship between the two country’s armies.
