PressTV/ Two dozen killed in Pakistan military raids

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- At least two dozen militants have been killed in two separate military attacks in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal regions, the army says.

The army said on Tuesday that it carried out airstrikes in the restive North Waziristan tribal region.

“In early morning precise aerial strikes in North Waziristan Agency today, 17 terrorists were killed including some foreigners,” a senior security official said.

An intelligence official said that five Uzbek and two Haqqani network militants were among those killed in the airstrikes.

The army added that ground troops also exchanged fire with militants in Tirah valley of Khyber agency. At least seven militants were killed during the clashes.

In June, the army launched an operation in North Waziristan with jets and artillery targeting militant strongholds near the border with Afghanistan.

According to the army, more than 1,100 militants and 100 soldiers have been killed since the start of the operation.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in its so-called war on terror.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan and thousands have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
