Why the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) recommended reciting Dua when performing Whudhu and during Salaat?

SHAFAQNA – It is narrated that in one of his recommendations to Imam Ali (AS), the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) said: Do raise your hands in Salaat and then lower them, and also do recite Dua and request God to grant whatever you ask for during the entire time that you are performing Wudhu [1]. By raising hands and lowering them, the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) was referring to Qonoot during Salaat, part of Mostahabat (recommended acts) during Salaat. The Prophet (PBUH) recommended this because it guarantees the attention of the human being during Salaat; and also by raising hands and then lowering them, it seems that this act strengthens Dua during Salaat, and also shows the importance of Dua. Performing Whudhu is the introduction to Salaat which in itself is pure Zikr (praising God); so it is important that the time of Whudhu is spent with total concentration by reciting Dua/the Quran and requesting God to accept the prayers.
