Questions about nail varnish and hair colour / the Grand Ayatollah Sistani’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Sistani answered questions about nail varnish and hair colour.

Question: Is it correct to use vanish for toes? What is the ruling about performing Wudhu, and for going out of the house without socks?

The Grand Ayatollah Sistani: Anointing on varnished nail is not correct, but if the distance between one nail and the other is sufficient enough for anointing, then there is no problem to anoint on that area; and it is Wajib to cover foots/legs form non-Mahrams even without make up.

Question: Considering that hair and nail are dead parts of the body; are nails considered as parts for Wudhu or not? Hair colour does not make ablution invalid; does nail varnish make ablution and Wudhu invalid?

The Grand Ayatollah Sistani: Nails are part of Wudhu, and if there is barrier on them, must be removed; and hair colour is not a barrier for ablution.
