Rafsanjani:US admits impossibility of anti-ISIL fight without Iran

“The US acknowledges that if Iran does not help, this [US-led] coalition cannot eliminate ISIL,” Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday.

SHAFAQNA– Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council says the United States has admitted that the fight against the ISIL terrorist group will fail without Iran’s help.

Airstrikes cannot destroy a terrorist group as in recent days we are witnessing the ISIL attack on the key Kurdish town of Kobani in Syria near the Turkish border, Rafsanjani added.

Referring to Iran’s role in easing recent tensions in Iraq, he also stressed that the Islamic Republic helped solve the problem of forming a new government in the Arab country.

On August 11, Iraqi President Fouad Massoum appointed the country’s then deputy parliament speaker, Haider al-Abadi, as the country’s new prime minister, and tasked him with forming the next government. In early September, the Iraqi parliament officially named Abadi as the country’s new premier and approved most of his proposed cabinet ministers.

Rafsanjani added that Iranians will be the key force on any battlefield against ISIL, adding, “I am not saying that we have deployed troops [to Iraq], but it was consultations [offered] by Iran that liberated the Mosul dam and the town of Amerli and the Americans know well that they could not do this job with aerial bombardment.”

Iraq has faced brutal violence by the ISIL across the country’s north and west since early June. The ISIL terrorists have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds, during their advances in Iraq.

They have been committing heinous crimes in the areas they have taken, including the mass execution of civilians as well as Iraqi army troops and officers.

The US and its allies recently launched airstrikes against ISIL terrorists in Iraq and later extended the aerial campaign to Syria.
