“Sedition, disputes not benefiting Muslims”: Iranian FM

SHAFAQNA – The Iranian minister made the remarks in a meeting with the Grand Mufti of Syria Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun who is in Tehran to attend the International Conference on the Islamic Unity.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday said that Muslims would by no means benefit from disputes and sedition, warning sedition-seekers against consequences of their actions.

Zarif said those who are after creating sedition and tension in Muslim countries should realize that their acts would backfire.

During the meeting, Zarif felicitated the Syrian cleric on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week which is held to mark the birth anniversary of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

He said clerics play a key role in putting an end to religious sedition is the Islamic world.

Zarif stressed that Muslim clerics could also play an effective role ifn countering a current which is to damage the image of Islam by portraying it as a religion of terror.

Meanwhile, the Syrian cleric hailed Iran’s role in establishment of unity among Muslims noting that Tehran has always been supporting the true version of Islam.

Sheikh Hassoun also appreciated Iran’s support for the oppressed nations, particularly that of Syria, stressing that enemies have managed to create religious seditions when they realized that Iran have achieved a remarkable position in scientific, technological, industrial and military activities relying on its own capabilities and out of the power and dominance of the enemies.
