Senior Shia scholar: Unity, key to save Iraq

SHAFAQNA – Coinciding with the celebrations to mark Imam Ali’s (as) birth anniversary, groups of Iraqi people met with Grand Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi.

In a ceremony held in Iraq in order to grant turbans to the students of Najaf seminary, Grand Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi, an Shia source of emulation, gave the students some guidelines saying, “Clerics must engage in the act of self-purification of their souls, increase their knowledge and try to promote Ahlul Bayt’s (as) doctrine.”

The Shia source of emulation also had a separate meeting with different groups of pilgrims from Iraq, Tanzania, UK, India, Pakistan and Iran in which he congratulated them on the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Ali (as) and asserted, “Imam Ali (as) holds a dear place in the hearts of the faithful; all Muslims, especially the followers of the Ahlul Bayt (as) must make efforts in order to promote the ethical teachings of the Ahlul Bayt (as) in societies.”

In another meeting with a group of Baghdadi citizens, Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi warned them to stay cautious in the face of sectarian measures caused by the enemies in Iraq.

“The enemies have united to destroy this nation and our country, ISIS terrorists have violated all our sanctities; so the Iraqi nation has no option but to face these terrorists and to crush them under their feet,” he concluded.
