SHAFAQNA-Shia Muslims are celebrating the anniversary of the beginning of Imamat (leadership) of Imam Mehdi, the 12th infallible Imam of Shia Islam that is known as saviour of the humanity and Messiah.
His father Imam Hassan Askari embraced martyrdom on 8th Rabiul Awwal and soon after his martyrdom; formally the Imamat of Imam Mehdi began.
The event is coincided with the end of annual 1st Moharram-8th Rabi-ul-Awwal Azadari hence Shia Muslims celebrate 9th of Rabiul Awwal as Eid for the two reasons: first beginning of the Imamat of the incumbent infallible Imam from Ahlal Bayt (AS) and Eid-e-Zahra (AS) or Eid-e-Shujaa known in the subcontinent by this name because Hazrat Imam Ali Zain ul Abideen smiled and thanked God over the killings of the assassins who massacred Imam Hussain (AS) and his 72 companions in Karbala. Hazrat Mukhtar Saqafi took the revenge of martyrs of Karbala from the gang of murderers.
Shia Muslims wear new clothes, offer special prayers, hold congregations and illuminate their houses, mosques and Imam Bargahs and give away Eidi to youngsters to mark the celebrations like Eid.
