Siemens to cut 7,800 jobs worldwide

SHAFAQNA- German engineering giant Siemens AG announced Friday its plans to cut about 7,800 jobs worldwide, including some 3,300 in Germany, in a 1-billion-euro (about 1.14 billion U.S. dollars) cost-saving measure.

The personnel adjustments were planned in connection with the company s new organizational structure, Siemens said in a statement on its website.

A more detailed breakdown of the affected jobs by region, location and business were not disclosed in the statement as the company still needs to hold discussions with union in Germany, the statement said.

However, Siemens announced that it expects the total number of employees worldwide to remain virtually stable.

Certain tasks and functions will be completely eliminated. We re going to tackle this challenge together and implement the resulting measures responsibly, said Siemens president Joe Kaeser, adding it is following company s Vision 2020 concept.

The company foresees that these measures will generate productivity gains of about 1 billion euros, which is to be put in place in large measure by the end of 2016.

In May of last year, Siemens presented its Vision 2020 concept and announced its intention to focus its activities on the growth fields of electrification, automation and digitalization, and to considerably streamline its portfolio.
