Six Turkish towns placed under curfew

At least nine people were killed on Tuesday in pro-Kurdish protests across Turkey against the government’s refusal to intervene militarily against the ISIL Takfiri militants attacking the Syrian town of Kobane.

SHAFAQNA- About six towns in eastern Turkey have been placed under curfew for fear of shelling from the Syrian side of the border, Press TV reports.

There were continuous clashes among Kurds and the police overnight. Police vehicles were torched, government buildings were attacked mainly in the east of the country. Similar incidents also took place in Ankara and Istanbul.

Kobane and its surroundings have been under attack since mid-September, with the ISIL militants capturing dozens of nearby Kurdish villages. The intense fighting for the strategic town has forced nearly 200,000 people to take refuge in Turkey.

On Monday, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said, “We are ready to do everything if there is a clear strategy that after ISIS [also known as the ISIL] we can be sure our border will be protected.”
