Slovak man causes bomb scare at EP

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association)- A Slovak man in camouflage clothes in whose car the Belgian police found a firearm and a chainsaw was arrested near the seat of the European Parliament (EP) this morning, and several parliament buildings were evacuated over fears there might be explosives in the man’s car.

This suspicion was not confirmed, and no bomb has been revealed in the parliament buildings that reopened in the afternoon.

Beata Kostilníková, Slovak consul to Brussels, told the Czech News Agency that she had no detailed information on the case yet.

The Slovak man, aged 44, was acting in a suspicious manner. Media speculate he was drunk. He allegedly wanted to talk to the EP president, Martin Schulz.

According to Belgian media, the man was not aggressive in any way. The area was closed because his answers seemed confused. He has been accused of illegal arms possession and a threatening attack.

Tightened security measures have been adopted in Brussels and the whole of Belgium over possible terrorist threats since the bloodshed in the Charlie Hebdo magazine’s Paris offices in mid-January. The Belgian police have been checking suspicious persons and especially people who returned from Syria.
