Superiority of deeds twinned with piety

SHAFAQNA – A close companion of Imam Sadeq (AS) narrated: I was with Imam Sadeq (AS) and we were talking about deeds and I said: How little are my deeds? Imam Sadeq (AS) replied: Little deeds with piety are better than many deeds without piety. I asked: How can many deeds be without piety?

Imam Sadeq (AS) replied: Like a person who is kind to people and neighbours and his house is open to people but when he is faced with a Haram act will not avoid it and commits that sin. But there is another person who does not do as many good deeds as the first person and if he is faced with a Haram act, controls himself, avoids that act, and of course the second person is better than the first one [1].
