Talks with US limited to nuclear issue: Iran FM

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Iran’s talks with the US are restricted to just nuclear issue.

Making the remark in a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart here on Monday, he said as stated by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, talks with the US are limited to only nuclear topics.

He said though some other topics might be brought up and discussed during the talks, the official negotiations are exclusively about the nuclear issue.

‘We have had no long discussions on any other topics other than nuclear ones,’ he added.

On cooperation among Iran, Syria and Iraq in fighting terrorism, he hoped the coordination between the Syrian and Iraqi foreign ministers that was so outstanding in the past two months would continue in the future as well.

He stressed that Iran as a friend of both countries will stand by them in their vital anti-terrorism and anti-extremism struggle.

The Iranian foreign minister further underscored that what the world had to focus on today was that double-standard policies, illogical political efforts, lack of awareness about the danger of terrorism and policies serving the interests of terrorist radical groups can never lead to serious solutions to the danger.

According to the United Nations, he said, citizens of 80 world countries are fighting for Daesh in Syria and Iraq, massacring innocent people that tarnish the image of Islam. The danger of terrorism is a universal one, since these people will pose threats to their own countries once they decide to go back home, Zarif added.

He further said he discussed ways of confronting terrorism and latest regional developments with the Syrian foreign minister.
