Teacher suspended after student allegedly taped to chair at Montreal school

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association)- A teacher has been suspended, and an angry mother has filed a police complaint, after a child was allegedly taped to a chair at a Montreal elementary school.

The teacher, who works for the city’s largest school board, is currently suspended.

A source familiar with the case told QMI Agency that the teacher is accused of confining the Grade 5 student to a chair with duct tape at a school in northeast Montreal last week.

The boy, known to have behavioural problems, was allegedly taped up in class for about five minutes and wasn’t injured, the source said.

It isn’t clear what led to the classroom punishment.

His furious mother came to school a week ago Thursday to confront officials. She then filed a complaint with Montreal police, the source said.

A police spokesman wouldn’t confirm or deny the report, citing confidentiality laws.

The board told QMI it’s taking the case seriously and handed down an immediate suspension.

“The teacher has been on home assignment for purposes of the investigation,” spokesman Alain Perron said.

He wouldn’t say how long the woman would be suspended or whether she’s still being paid.

This isn’t the first time the teacher has been suspended for excessive discipline, a school board staffer told QMI.
