The Abraham Fund calls for coexistance as Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha fall on the same day this year

SHAFAQNA - For most of you, today is just Wednesday; but for Muslims and Jews, tomorrow is one of the most important days in their respective religious calendars.

For Jews, tomorrow is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Yom Kippur is a very solemn day, where Jews fast and ask God for forgiveness for their sins.

For Muslims, tomorrow is Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. Eid al-Adha is a day of celebration, marked by feasting with family and friends.

So that’s two important festivals, from two major religions, marked in very different ways. What could go wrong?

Well, in the ever-tense land of Israel, lots. Which is why the brilliant coexistence charity The Abraham Fund has created this super-cute video.

Writing on their website, they explain: ‘Judaism and Islam’s holiest days, Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha, will coincide. Since these two festivals are observed so differently, and there is limited public awareness of either’s traditions, this could be a cause for provocation in Israel.
When such important dates on the Islamic lunar calendar and Jewish lunisolar calendar align, surely that’s a sign that people should come together, right?
