The citizenship rights for non-Muslims living under Islamic rule

SHAFAQNA – At the time of Imam Ali (AS) a blind man was begging. Imam Ali (AS) asked him about his life and the blind man replied: I am an old Christian man, and I served in various government offices when I was younger. Imam Ali (AS) was moved with compassion for him and said: In his younger years, he worked for you and now that he is old and unable, you have deprived him from his rights? Imam Ali (AS) ordered the treasurer to pay for the living expenses of the old Christian man from the public treasury [1].
