The condition in which the guest’s Zakat al-Fitr is paid by the host/the Grand Ayatollah Sistani’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Sistani answered a question about the condition in which the guest’s Zakat al-Fitr is paid by the host.

Question: If in the last night of the month of Ramadhan, a guest is suddenly arrived, is the host responsible to pay the guest’s Zakat al-Fitr?

The Grand Ayatollah Sistani: The guest’s Zakat al-Fitr who has arrived before the sunset of the night of Eid-ul-Fitr and stayed the night there, and although the guest does not count as host’s dependent, is Wajeb for the host (must be paid by the host). And also, according to precaution, if (the guest) is arrived after the sunset of the night of Eid-ul-Fitr, is considered as the host’s dependent; otherwise, it is not Wajeb. And a person, who is invited just for Iftar for the last night before Eid-ul-Fitr, is not considered as dependent of the host, and the host is not responsible for guest’s Zakat al-Fitr.
