The Quran – Everlasting Miracle of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)
Translation: Should you have any doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, present one chapter comparable to it and call on all your supporters, besides Allah, if your claim is true.
If you do not produce such a chapter, and you never will, then guard yourselves against the fire whose fuel will be people and stones and is prepared for those who hide the Truth.
Commentary: The Quran is the ultimate word of Allah1 (swt), which the Angel Gabriel revealed to the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh). Disbelievers of Mecca refuted this ideology by claiming the Quran is a fabrication of human mind and intellect.
During that era, people of Arabia were well known for their talent in linguistic composition, eloquent speeches and elaborate poetry. Therefore, the Quran issued a challenge to the cynics of Islam by asking them to present a chapter similar in quality to any one chapter in the Quran. This challenge has never been met by anyone, since no human can ever present a chapter similar in eloquence, with the depth of expression and sheer truthfulness, like that of the Quran.
Walīd ibn al-Mughīra (Arabic: الوليد بن المغيرة المخزومي) was one of the principal offenders of the Prophet. After he heard recitation of the Quran, he went to disbelievers and said:
“I have just heard Mohammad’s words, which for sure are neither a human’s nor a jinn’s. They are euphonious and relaxing, like a tree full of reachable fruits. They are of the highest quality and cannot be out-perfected2.”
Indeed God’s knowledge, wisdom and power is exceedingly far above His creation. Therefore mankind’s words could never rival God’s words in regards to eloquence, rhetorical excellence, wisdom and truthfulness.
The Quran describes in great detail the physical and metaphysical aspects of the universe, which are consistent with mankind’s scientific discoveries. This feature alone defines the Quran as an extraordinary book. More importantly, the Quran heals diseases of the soul and guides mankind to prosperity3, which is another miracle of the Quran.
