The way to restore righteousness of the person who has committed a sin / the Grand Ayatollah Makarem’s answers

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi answered questions about restoring righteousness (the quality of morally justifiable) of the person who has committed a sin.

Question: Whenever a person has committed one of the two cases of lying or backbiting, does his righteousness cease to be valid? Is it necessary to be certain that he has repented; for his righteousness to be restored?

The Grand Ayatollah Makarem: Yes, his righteousness ceases to be valid; and to restore it, he must repent.
