Thousands without power after winds whip Vancouver area

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) An Environment Canada wind warning for the Vancouver area ended Friday, but not before powerful gusts knocked out power to more than 70,000 people.

After four days of pounding rain flooded much of Vancouver Island and waterlogged other parts of the province, the lower mainland was whipped by winds Thursday night and into Friday morning.

The 911 service was so overloaded with calls reporting outages, at one point, Emergency Communications for B.C. pleaded with residents, via Twitter, to leave the phone lines free for “true emergencies.”
