tribune.com.pk/Islamic State in Pakistan: MQM submits call attention notice in Sindh Assembly

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday submitted a call attention notice in the Sindh Assembly to discuss the presence of Islamic State (IS) in the country, Express News reported.

IS is a militant group which has taken over swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria.

The notice was submitted by MQM MPA Kamran Akhtar in today’s session, requesting the provincial and federal governments to take action against any IS activities in the country.

Last week, a leaked government memo warned that IS had recruited 10,000-12,000 fighters inside Pakistan, but government insisted that the group had no presence there. Militants and security officials also dismissed the memo as not credible.

Several militants said that hundreds of Pakistanis have gone to fight in Syria, but had done so through the Taliban or on their own.
