Is there any use for soft words?

SHAFAQNA – Imam Sadeq (AS) was crossing an area with two of his companions when they faced a guardsman. In a rough and disrespectful manner, the guardsman told Imam Sadeq (AS): I will never allow you to cross this area! In a tolerant manner, Imam Sadeq (AS) asked the guardsman to allow him pass, but he harshly prevented Imam (AS). One of the companions of Imam Sadeq (AS) said: This guardsman is bothering you and I fear he may arrest you; if you let me with the help of my brother we are ready to kill him and throw his body in the river. Imam Sadeq (AS) replied: Control yourself! Imam (AS) spoke to the guardsman with soft words and finally after a long delay near morning, the guardsman gave permission to Imam (AS) to cross the area. Imam Sadeq (AS) asked his companions: Is this better or what you said? How often the human being comes out of a small hardship and is inflicted with a greater one [1].
