According to a Daily Mail report Azam Khan the Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Minority Affairs Minister has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to spill the blood of Muslims in the name of the Ram temple.

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi without using his name, Azam said in a statement on Sunday that a conspiracy was going on to replay the past incidents of Gujarat in the name of religion.

Azam was apparently hinting at the Gujarat riots of 2002, which happened when Modi was the chief minister of the state.

Azam Khan’s statement, made a day before the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) plan to hold a Ram Barat (marriage party of Lord Ram) from Ayodhya in UP to Janakpur in Nepal, can also be viewed as a warning that similar activities led to the Gujarat riots.

The SP leader also criticised Gorakhpur MP and leader of Ram temple movement Yogi Adityanath, saying: “The MP, who has criminal mindset is trying to push the state into a Gujarat-like situation. He believes in the policy of spilling the blood of innocent people.”

“Ram temple is only an excuse for him to start a massacre here,” Azam added.
