Question: Is it Wajib to ask forgiveness from and restore the reputation of the one who has been the subject of backbiting? The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi’s answer
The grand Ayatollah Shobairi:If it is possible, restoring reputation is needed; otherwise if it is possible, must ask for forgiveness; and if it is not possible to ask for forgiveness, or it may cause corruption/misconduct, asking for forgiveness is not necessary, and repenting will suffice.
