What does Islam say about arrogance?

SHAFAQNA – Islamic teachings stress and encourage courtesy which is opposite arrogance. Various verses in the holy Quran refer to the effects and blessings of courtesy so that people are encouraged to adopt courteous behaviour in their life time. Arrogant behaviour is completely rejected in Islam and this is clearly evident in various holy verses of the Quran.

For example Ayah 37 of Surah Al-Asra says: “Never walk on earth arrogantly as you are not able to breach the earth nor reach the mountains in height.” Another example is mentioned in Ayah 18 of Surah Luqman: “And swell not your cheek (with pride and arrogance) at others, nor walk in insolence through the earth, Allah (SWT) does not like any arrogant boaster.”
