What is friendship?

SHAFAQNA – It is narrated from the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) who said: Test (know) people by their friends; because a person befriends someone whose behaviour he/she likes [1]. Imam Ali (AS) said: A good way of helping a friend will become apparent in difficult circumstances [2]. In another narration, Imam Ali (AS) said: Whatever kindness you have offer it to your (real) friend, but whatever trust you have do not give it to him/her [3]. In another place, Imam Ali (AS) said: The most unable of people is the one who cannot find a (real) friend, and even worse than this person is the one who loses his/her (real) friends [4]. It is also narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS) who said: Anyone who became angry with you three times but did not say anything bad to you, choose him/her as a friend [5].
