What is sustenance?

SHAFAQNA – It is narrated that Allah (SWT) will not allow anything to be carried out except through its right way (with the right instrument, tool and apparatus) [1]. Allah (SWT) is the cause of all the causes [2]; meaning, the source of creation is God, the Almighty is the first cause of creation and all the other causes are from God. Anything that is carried out is according to God’s will, even if that thing is carried out with a tool or an intermediate. Wisdom rules that a human being must try to earn his/her basic needs such as food, security, peace and comfort. Of course human instinct also provokes a person to try to earn sustenance in order to live. Therefore trying to earn sustenance is an Islamic and rational Wajeb (obligatory under religious decree).
