What to do about the backbiting? The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei answered a question about backbiting (Qeebah).

Question: If in a gathering, they are backbiting a believer, I know it is our duty to prohibit bad, my question is that: In addition to prohibiting bad, is it Wajib for us to protect/defend the dignity of that believer (in a way that if the backbiting is accusation, we can prove to others that the malicious talk is not correct); and if we do not defend the believer’s dignity, have we committed a sin?

The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei: Rejecting the backbiting (Qeebah) (denying the accusation against the person who is not present) is Wajib.
