Yemeni sunni cleric: Yemenis never to forget Saudi regime’s atrocities

SHAFAQNA – A prominent Yemeni Sunni leader slammed Saudi Arabia’s deadly military campaign against his country, saying Yemenis will never give into such assaults.

The Yemeni nation will never bow to the aggressors under any circumstances, said Sahl Ibrahim bin Aqeel, a prominent Sunni cleric in the southwestern province of Ta’izz told on Thursday, adding that people in his country will never forget the Saudi regime’s atrocious deeds.

He highlighted the Yemeni nation’s support for the popular uprising in the country, saying the Ansarullah movement won public support after it rose against the corrupt Saudi-backed officials of the former government.

The senior cleric added that the enemies are after destroying the Arab state by inciting sectarian sentiments in the nation, warning that the developments in Yemen are part of the plot to break up the country into smaller parts.

He also touched upon the terror activities carried out by the al-Qaeda militant group in Yemen, saying people will never allow Takfiri terrorists to rise to power in the Arabian Peninsula state.

Riyadh started military aggression against Yemen on March 26 – without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which currently controls the capital, Sana’a, and other major provinces, and also to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The United Nations says, since March 19, over 1,800 people have been killed and 7,330 injured due to the conflict in Yemen.
