SHAFAQNA- The discovery of an ancient mosque, which archaeologists say is one of the first mosques built in the world.
According to Shafaqna, archaeologists have reported the discovery of one of the world’s first mosques in the Negev desert in the occupied Palestine. The mosque was built 1200 years ago. The remnants of this mosque, dating back to the seventh or eighth century, have been found in the city of Raht.
According to the officials of the historical monuments department, this is the first mosque in that area. This mosque is as old as the mosques found in Mecca and Jerusalem and is “a rare discovery in the world.” Researchers believe local farmers would probably use this mosque. This rectangular mosque was not enclosed and has a sanctuary facing the south towards Mecca. One of the archaeological team members said: “These features show the function of this building in the hundreds of years.”
