Sources: Brother of Yemen’s Houthi leader assassinated by Saudi-linked team

SHAFAQNAYemeni sources assert a team linked with Saudi Arabia’s intelligence service carried out the assassination of the younger brother of leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah Movement , Abdel-Malek al-Houthi.

Pan-Arab news network Almayadeen cites senior officials as saying that Ibrahim Badreddin al-Houthi was killed by agents affiliated with neighboring Saudi Arabia. Yemeni officials found out the head of the group is a militiaman who has been working with the Saudi-backed regime of former President Hadi. Yemeni officials told Almayadeen they have arrested nearly 80 percent of the team members.

Al Masirah website close to Ansarullah Movement on Friday August 9, 2019 announced the assassination of Ibrahim Badreddin al-Houthi without providing more details about when, how or where he had been killed. In its statement, Yemen’s Interior ministry stated that Ibrahim al-Houthi who was also a senior member of Ansarullah Movement, was killed by “treacherous hands affiliated with the US-Saudi-Israeli aggression” adding “it would spare no efforts to find his killers”.

Thousands of Yemeni civilians have been killed and tens of thousands injured since the 2015 Saudi-Emirati-led offensive against Yemen. Saudi Arabia waged a war on Yemen in a bid to reinstate former President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi who was toppled through a peaceful revolution in the capital Sana’a in 2014. International agencies have been warning for a while that Yemen is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe due to the relentless attacks and bombardments.

The news about Ibrahim al-Houthis’ assassination also comes amid fierce clashes between Saudi-backed militias and forces loyal to the United Arab Emirates in the southern city of Aden.
