Muslim World condemned Israel for storming Al-Aqsa Mosque

SHAFAQNA- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned the Zionist regime for committing crimes against the Palestinians at al-Aqsa mosque on holy day for Muslims, urged upon Muslims to “end this tyranny.”

Javad Zarif wrote on Twitter, “the crime shown in this photo was but one perpetrated on al-Aqsa this morning—on our holy day. The same terrorists are hoping to impose #Humiliation of the Century on Palestinians,” he added.

He attached a pictures, showing Israeli troops attacking Palestinians in the al-Aqsa Mosque on Eid_al_Adha, to his tweet.

Iranian Foreign Minister concluded by saying that “we Muslims have power to end this tyranny, but only if we unite.”

Violence erupted at the mosque on Sunday morning after Israeli policemen fired stun grenades and tear gas at the Palestinians who had finished their Eid prayers.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said that at least 37 worshipers had been injured in the clashes inside the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, which lies in the Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds.

“The worshipers were moderately injured and 14 of them were transferred to hospitals for further treatment,” it added.

Israelis had been barred from entering the holy site to observe the fasting and mourning day of Tisha B’Av, which coincided with Eid al-Adha this year.

The al-Aqsa Mosque compound is usually closed to non-Muslim visitors during Muslim holidays, but as the holidays overlap this year, some Israeli organizations had appealed to the regime to allow Jewish visitors into the site, press tv reported.

Hanan Ashrawi, a senior leader in the Palestine Liberation Organisation, said Israel was “fueling religious tensions in Jerusalem” and that Israeli officials would be “fully responsible for its grave consequences”, thenational told.

Abunimah, co-founder of Electronic Intifada, told Al Jazeera that the tension could have been prevented by Israel not allowing “religious extremists associated with the so-called Temple Movement” to go to Al-Aqsa on the day Palestinians were celebrating Eid al-Adha.

Abunimah added that on Jewish holidays, Israel imposes a total closure on the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, banning millions of Palestinians from moving about, entering Jerusalem or visiting their holy site, “supposedly in order to protect Jews during religious holidays”.

“But on Eid al-Adha, Israel has done the opposite which is to allow religious extremists to go to Al-Aqsa for the purpose of provoking Muslims and I think that has to be very clear because these aren’t just pious Jewish worshipers who want to go and pray at the holy site,” Abunimah said.

Arab world condemns Israel for ‘violating sanctity of Al-Aqsa’

Other voices in the Muslim and Arabic world joined the condemnation of Israel following the violent clashes in Jerusalem, including Saudi Arabia whose chilly ties with Israel have warmed in recent years.

A Saudi Foreign Ministry source condemned “Israeli occupation forces’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and attacking worshipers on the first day of Eid Al-Adha,” the Times of Israel reported citing the Saudi Press Agency.

Jordan’s foreign minister also slammed Israel’s decision to allow Jews visit the Temple Mount on Tisha Be’ Av. “We condemn Israel’s violations at the al-Aqsa mosque,” he said in a statement.

“The actions of the authorities of the occupation will only add fuel to the conflict and make it volatile. We call the international community to take responsibility and pressurize Israel to cease from its violations,” the statement concluded, according to i24NEWS.

Qatar joined in the call for intervention against “Israeli aggression.”

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh also condemned Israel in a statement.

“We hold the Israeli government responsible for storming Al-Aqsa Mosque and acting aggressively against worshipers, a major provocation against Muslims’ feelings that is inflaming the situation and increasing tension”, israelhayom mentioned.
