Nigeria Hired ‘Killer Doctors’ To Treat, Execute Shia cleric in India

SHAFAQNANigeria forced the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, to return to Nigeria without being treated in India because his agents wanted ‘killer’ doctors to execute rather than treat the embattled Shia leader.

According to a statement by IMN spokesman, Ibrahim Musa, the Buhari regime was bent on executing El-Zakzaky that the Shia leader was asked to be treated by Nigerian government-approved doctors or return to Nigeria within two hours, saharareporters reported.

“The facts are that the government mischievously went beyond its role of supervision to the level of maliciously interfering in the medical process, instructing on which doctors the Sheikh and his wife must see, while refusing to allow them access to their own doctors. Apparently, the government had a hidden mission, the details of which they had detailed specific doctors to execute. The Sheikh was forced to either accept their choice or return home within two hours.

“He, therefore, insisted on having the presence of the doctors that initially assessed him in Nigeria, who also worked in that hospital, failing which, he preferred to return to Nigeria. He refused to be subjected to any breach in the basic ethical principles guiding the medical treatment of people of respect for persons: protecting the autonomy of all people and treating them with courtesy and respect and allowing for informed consent, which the Nigerian government had contracted medical personnel in the Indian hospital to throw to the wind,” the group alleged.

It stated further: “Before efforts at resolving this impasse could be concluded, the Sheikh was brought back to Nigeria since their evil schemes could not be executed. The government is now churning out contradictory explanations to blame the Sheikh for not allowing himself to be killed in the name of medical treatment. The Nigerian government is also blackmailing the Sheikh that he sought for asylum in India just to cover their own gross misconduct in a foreign land.

Zakzaky returned to Nigeria along with his wife Mallimah Zinat under Nigerian security control – after announcing an early departure from India earlier on Thursday, citing obstruction of his treatment under the influence of the Nigerian government.

According to the statement and other media reports, Nigerian security agents “whisked” the religious leader away after he landed at the Abuja International airport “without allowing the multitude of journalists that were waiting for him for hours” to speak with him, press tv reported.

The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) is deeply concerned regarding the safety and security of Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife Mallimah Zeenah.

Chair of IHRC, Massoud Shadjareh said “It is time that those elements within the Nigerian government who have privately and repeatedly expressed their embarrassment and shame about this case, to make their feelings known and push the governmental machine, such that it is, to desist in its illegality and release this couple and all those held for their belief and/or conscience.”

IHRC is calling on the international community and global civil society to demand the Nigerian authorities immediately:

  • guarantee their safety and security;
  • work towards their immediate travel to a country of their choosing for urgent medical treatment as per the court order of this month;
  • work towards their immediate and unconditional release as per the court order of 2016

A Nigerian court ordered last week that Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife be released to go to the hospital and return for the continuation of their trial after their discharge from the hospital, Mehr News Agency told.

The order came after the international calls on the Nigerian government to transfer Sheikh Zakzaki to a well-equipped hospital to prevent any unfortunate incidents.

Sheikh Zakzaky, who is in his mid-sixties, has been imprisoned for four years and needs to undergo treatments before soon.

He lost his left eyesight in a 2015 raid by security forces that left more than 300 of his followers and three of his sons dead. His wife also sustained serious wounds.
