What is the ruling on eating in places where wine is served? The Grand Ayatollah Safi’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Safi issued Fatwa about wine.

  1. Drinking wine is Haram, and in some news it has been considered as the great sin, and if any one considers it Halal, is a disbeliever. It is narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS) who said: Wine is the root of all bad things, and the origin of sins, and the one who drinks wine, loses his wisdom, and at that time does not know God, and does not fear any sin, and does not respect any one, and does not observe the rights of close relatives, and does not avoid apparent indecent acts, and the spirit of belief and monotheism goes out of his body, and the dark and incomplete spirit which is away from the God’s Mercy remains in him, and God, angels, prophets and believers curse him, and his Salaat is not accepted for forty days, and on the Day of Judgment his face is black, and his tongue comes out of his mouth, and his saliva pours on his chest, and his scream for thirst is loud.
  2. Sitting at the table where wine is consumed, if a person is considered one of them (those around table) is Haram, and eating anything from that table is also Haram.
