The vaccination campaign for Cholera, started its work in Yemen’s capital Sana’a+ Video

SHAFAQNA- Press TV: The Ministry of Health of Yemen with the cooperation of global health bodies, has started a new program for cholera vaccination to eradicate this epidemic disease which has claimed many lives in the impoverished country.

The United Nations children’s agency (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization along with Yemen’s Ministry has started a cholera vaccination campaign across the capital Sana’a.

Many experts hope the vaccination campaign could address the root cause of the disease as they say the disease has already reached an alarming level.

Yemen has already undergone two major waves of cholera epidemics in recent years amid the war by Saudi Arabia against the country.

Previous outbreaks might have helped build cholera immunity in the population, but other diseases, as well as malnutrition, have weakened Yemenis’ immune systems.

Earlier, international organizations had warned that Yemen was likely to be struck by major health problems due to the series of airstrikes by Saudi Arabia hitting water facilities and medical infrastructure of the country.

Over the past nearly five years, the Saudi-led war machine has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories.

The United Nations has already warned that more than 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.

Access to healthy water sources is the best way for putting an end to the spread of epidemic diseases, such as cholera, in a situation that many of the water tanks have been bombarded by Saudi Arabia.
