Shia citizens Meet With Bloodshed in world: Reports warn about dangers in Afghanistan, Nigeria and Iraq

SHAFAQNA | By LeilaYazdani : Over the last few days, some media all over the world have put their focus on Shia citizens who met with bloodshed in world. Reports warned about dangers in Afghanistan, Nigeria and Iraq.

The Washingtonpost published a report entitled “A young Afghan pledged to better his country” to send a specific message into the world about a death that shocked Afghanistan.

Abdul Samad Amiri is the young advocate who lost his life in pursuit of human rights. In light of the report, Amiri belonged to the minority Hazara ethnic group, a frequent target of Taliban attacks, making him an even more likely mark.

During Ashura holiday in Kabul, members of the Hazara community, most of whom practice Shia Islam, fear mosques and public gatherings could be targeted.

The report disclosed that Amiri had worked extensively on reports about civilian killings in his home region and was responsible for looking into incidents suspected to be perpetrated by the Taliban, and that work made him a target of the militant group, which governed Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001 and has been fighting the Afghan government and allied forces ever since.

Moreover, four members of the commission for which Amiri worked have been killed in recent years, including a former head of the same office in Ghowr.

According to report Ashraf Ghani said that it amounted to “a crime against humanity.”

It is not clear what strategy the Abuja government is following with respect to the IMN

Council on foreign relations put its focus on Nigeria and IMN. The body of the Report mainly contain details on Shias who met with bloodshed in Nigeria.

Then, reported an estimated three hundred IMN members were killed around Zaria, Kaduna in 2015 in a series of confrontations between Zakzaky’s followers and the military.

According to the report, one year ago, IMN members clashed with security services during the Arbaeen Symbolic Trek. At least forty people were likely killed as a result, making it one of the deadliest incidents since Zaria in 2015.

The story continues with information about a Shia religious and political movement.

The articles showed the decision to label the IMN as a terrorist organization came after deadly clashes between security services and alleged IMN members in July, who were protesting the continued imprisonment of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky.

According to report the government has since accused Zakzaky of planning a takeover of Nigeria along the lines of the 1979 Iranian revolution.

Report insists that Zakzaky has clear ties to Iran, inspires by the Iranian Revolution, but he hasn’t openly called for violence, and links to violence are tenuous and, he and his follower are largely peaceful.

Report’s finding suggest that  it is not clear what strategy the Abuja government is following with respect to the IMN, but Zakzaky’s issues with the Nigerian government are unlikely to be resolved anytime soon.

The basis point according to report is, however, that a religious procession or peaceful protest over the detention of Zakzaky should not end in bloodshed.
