Is patience and tolerance effective at the time of illness and distress?

SHAFAQNA – In his commentary regarding the short eloquent saying number 27 in Nahjul Balaghah, the Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said:  Imam Ali (AS) said: When you become ill, do not take medicines immediately. Consult with a doctor, and be aware that the body itself defends against a part of the illness; your patience and tolerance strengthens the defensive mechanism of the body. On the other hand the recommendations in this example can be used for other cases. When a bitter/tragic event occurs, do not get too distressed and do not lose your composure. Patience and tolerance is effective.
