SHAFAQNA – Bahrain Mirror: Six female Bahraini prisoners of conscience held in Bahraini prisons because of their opinions, The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society called for the release of them.
Al-Wefaq confirmed that the prisoners are Zakia Al-Barbouri – sentenced to five years in prison and revocation of nationality – Madina Ali – sentenced to three years in prison – Hajar Mansour – sentenced to three years in prison – Fatima Abdullah – sentenced to three years in prison -Iman Abdullah – sentenced to three years in prison – and Amal Abdullah – sentenced to three years in prison.
The society added that they are imprisoned as part of the regime’s response to the people’s movement, which demands democracy, freedom and social justice and rejects injustice, tyranny, theft and corruption.
The regime arrests Bahraini women, tortures and blackmails them and uses every dirty method to humiliate them in order to pressure the people to let go of the necessary demands that most of the people of Bahrain are calling for.
Al-Wefaq stressed the female Bahraini prisoners of conscience do not belong to prison and that their place is in the society to perform their educational, family and other societal roles, adding that their detention is a disgrace to this dictatorship that has transcended all Islamic and human values and norms in targeting Bahraini women.
It is noteworthy mentioning that the regime has arrested more than 300 Bahraini women since the beginning of the movement, while its institutions such as the Supreme Council for Women and others, which talk about women’s rights, have been either silent or supportive of the regime’s crimes against women.
