SHAFAQNA– People in Indian-controlled Kashmir say Indian para military forces have intensified their operation as part of plans to deter pro-independence militants from staging any attack.
Security operations across the Himalayan valley increased in the wake of Saturday’s militant grenade attacks on Indian forces in the old town of Srinagar.
Residents of downtown Srinagar also report about constant harassment from police and security forces who sometimes threaten that they would rent their houses to forces located in the region.
Main markets and businesses remain closed in Kashmir, public transport is off the roads in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir while landline services have been resumed in some parts. Two pro-independence leader and former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are detained while other politicians are placed under house arrests.
