SHAFAQNA- Mufti Husein Effendi Kavazović was affirmed as the head of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina for another seven years.
The internal elections of Supreme Council of Islamic Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held on October 12, 2019. It was attended by over 374 persons including the Grand Muftis from different regions, heads of universities and Islamic faculties in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a result, Husein Effendi was affirmed on his side as President of Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the next seven years.
He has been the head of Islamic Community of Bosnia in the past seven years and he has played a positive role in establishing the Muslim community and conducting organizational reforms within the Islamic community of this country.
The other applicant for the election was ‘Muamer Zukorlić’, former Mufti of the “Sanjak” region of Serbia and the representative of the country’s parliament. The number of the votes of Kavazović in comparison with the votes of Zukorlić was 291 to 82.
Before acting as Reis ul-Ulema of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein Effendi was Mufti of Tuzla.
Kavazović was born in 1964. After graduating from Islamic school at the University of al-Azhar, Egypt and graduation in the field of Islamic Sharia in Bosnia, in the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, he completed his masters and doctorate in the field of Islamic law and jurisprudence.
